christmas Advent Activities
In our home, we love creating magical memories and this is especially true during the Christmas season. In our years since having children, we have seen times of plenty and times of scarcity and we still prioritize the countdown to Christmas. Some years we haven’t done a single activity with a hefty price tag. Craft supplies from the dollar tree, baking ingredients from the grocery, some old Christmas DVD’s, thrifted classic Christmas story books, and knowledge of a few good Christmas light displays around the neighborhood and we’ve been good to go for a memory making marathon. Other years, we’ve been blessed to spend the money to get those milestone Santa photos and pay to visit the professional light displays in the area. Mostly, we experience a variety of expenses.
Part of the magic is the anticipation of picking the activity out of the Advent pocket calendar (we got our’s at the local Dollar Tree) and excitedly seeing what fun thing we’re doing that day. We enjoy a mix of reading, movie watching, crafts, and baking. In our home we keep our focus on the true meaning of Christmas: the miracle of Jesus Christ’s birth. We also believe in the magic of childhood in the fantasy of Santa Clause. The activities we do during Advent reflect both of those values. It truly has brought us such joy and valuable family time as we spend intentional moments together building a childhood Christmas to treasure for life.
