God In The Garden -Making Plans
“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”
Proverbs 21:5
March. The official start to spring. Although many days are still drab with dreariness, we are gifted a few days full of glorious warmth foreshadowing what’s to come. A restlessness invades our restfulness. Our bodies begin to thaw and our minds awaken.
We gardeners have fought long and hard all winter to temper our ambitious dreaming from burrowing deeply into our consciousness and transforming from dreams to actions too early. The garden’s call for us to create has been forced into dormancy and reignites with fire as soon as we’re promised a bit of sunshine and longer days.
The more time we spend in the garden, the more wisdom we gain. Each of us have learned valuable and humbling lessons throughout our time as gardeners. One of those lessons being the importance of intentional planning. Whether past failings have left us with too many seedlings we have no place to plant them all, not enough seedlings that we aren’t efficiently utilizing our space, an improper set up (indoor or outdoor), starting too early or too late, or the unfortunate death of everything we’ve grown, each lesson has taken root within us to remember and share with others. From mismanaged time, money, or resources, gardeners everywhere have learned the value of beginning with a plan.
So before you buy or plant anything, make a plan. Decide what you will grow and when, where, and how you will grow it. There are many, many options for gardens of all sizes to be successful. But as with any craft, there are also many, many ways to be unsuccessful. Failure isn’t a total loss, for as we gardeners know well, the knowledge gifted from failure is unforgettable.
Just as scripture wisely advises us in Proverbs 21:5, a good plan will lead to abundance. Now is the time for making plans friends. And soon, we will be elbow deep in the soil and one of God’s beautiful blessings of life will be flourishing around us.
